I didn't expect Mirage league to punish lazy Atlas setups this hard, but it really does. If you're still trying to run one tree for everything, you're probably watching profit slip away map after map. What worked for me was cutting the plan into parts and letting each part fund the next. I started with City Square Essence farming, and that early stack of materials gave me room to move without touching my core stash of POE1Currency or forcing weird market flips. People love to brush Essence off as starter content, but in 3.28 that's a bad read. City Square is clean, easy to repeat, and doesn't ask much from your build. You load in, hit the key targets, get out, and do it again. After a few sessions, the income feels less like lucky drops and more like clockwork.
Why Essence comes first

The big advantage isn't just profit per map. It's mental. You don't need to think too much, and that matters when you're grinding for hours. A lot of players jump straight into league mechanics looking for the huge jackpot, then burn out because every map feels like a decision tree. Essence in City Square keeps things simple. You build a steady pile of crafting value, bulk it up, sell when the market looks right, and use that money to bankroll the more volatile parts of your loop. That's the bit people miss. A farming strategy doesn't need to look glamorous if it keeps the machine running. Mine didn't start with some wild mirror-tier setup. It started with repetition and a map layout that never got in the way.
Heist is better than people admit

Once the baseline was there, I moved into Heist, and honestly, this is where the league started to feel different. Most players still treat Heist like side content they'll get to later. Bad idea. The Atlas support for Blueprint rewards is strong enough now that Replica Uniques and stacked side-room loot can carry entire sessions. The trick, at least for me, was not mixing it with mapping. I'd collect contracts during regular play, stash them, then run Heist in bulk when I was in the mood for it. That kept the pace clean and stopped the usual back-and-forth fatigue. You'll notice the income evens out too. Heist doesn't always explode with one giant drop, but over a long stretch it smooths over the dry spells that mapping can't avoid.
The Mirage reset trick

The real money came from Mirage itself, but only after I stopped playing it the obvious way. Most people chase raw speed and assume faster maps mean better rewards. That's only half true. Mirage rewards long completion chains, sure, but the scaling doesn't keep climbing forever. I started seeing weak returns once I pushed past roughly a dozen maps in a row. After that, the value just felt off. So I began resetting the cycle around map 12 to 15 by swapping into a Pinnacle boss encounter, then going straight back into maps. That one change fixed the whole rhythm. My build was Tornado Shot Deadeye, mostly because it could keep moving without awkward downtime, but the build mattered less than the pacing. If your streak management is bad, your profits will be too.
Bossing ties the whole thing together

At the end of the day, bossing was the piece that made the loop feel complete instead of random. I didn't buy fragments or force entries. I just used the sets that naturally piled up from Mirage and regular mapping, then ran Uber Elder or The Feared when I wanted a change of pace. Some nights you miss. That's just PoE. Other nights you hit a drop that resets your mood instantly. More importantly, the whole system feeds itself in a way that's easy to stick with: Essence gives you stable trade value, Heist catches the bad luck, Mirage creates the key flow, and bosses provide the spike. If you like having options, or even checking market rates and item supply on places like U4GM while planning your next session, this kind of loop makes a lot more sense than forcing one mechanic until you hate the league.
