If you are trying to build the ultimate car collection or stack up credits rapidly in Forza Horizon 6’s stunning recreation of Japan, standard racing simply won't cut it. You need skill points, and you need a massive amount of them to unlock Car Mastery perks.

The gold standard for farming has always been drifting, jumping, and smashing through things across the open world. To do this efficiently, you can't just pick any random supercar. You need a vehicle with a built-in Mastery Tree that multiplies your efforts.

Let's dive into the absolute best vehicles for free-roam skill farming, backed by the raw numbers and mechanics that make them work.

The Golden Formula: Understanding the 500,000 Cap
Before picking a car, you need to understand the basic math of Horizon’s banking system. The maximum number of Skill Points you can earn in a single continuous combo chain is 10.

Each Skill Point requires 50,000 skill score points. Therefore, your ultimate goal for every single chain is to hit a total score of 500,000. Anything you earn beyond 500,000 in a single combo is completely wasted.

Standard Cars: Max out at a 5x multiplier. To hit the cap, you must generate a base score of 100,000 points ($100,000 \times 5 = 500,000$).

Farming Cars: Max out at a 7x, 8x, or 9x multiplier. If your car hits a 9x multiplier, you only need a base score of roughly 55,556 points ($55,556 \times 9 = 500,004$).

By cutting the required base score nearly in half, specialized farming cars allow you to bank 10 Skill Points much faster, drastically reducing your total time spent grinding.

The Best Free-Roam Farming Cars
1. 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B-STi Version
Forza Horizon 6 players have quickly realized that this JDM icon is arguably the most well-rounded and cost-efficient vehicle for farming in the entire game.

Why it works in Free Roam:

Because it is a rally-bred legend, the 22B handles the transition from asphalt to dirt seamlessly. If you take it to flat open areas like the airport runways or downhills, you can easily swing the rear end side-to-side.

With the 9x multiplier unlocked via its mastery tree and a proper S2 dirt/drift tune, you only need to string together a base score of 55,556 points. You can easily clear this target in about 30 to 45 seconds of continuous sliding and smashing objects.

2. 1984 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16
If you want an alternative that handles off-road terrains like a monster while keeping the coveted 9x multiplier perk, the Peugeot 205 T16 is your best bet.

Like the Subaru, it features the rapid 2.5x multiplier build rate. The main advantage of the Peugeot is its lightweight chassis and incredibly high clearance when fitted with rally suspension. If your free-roam farming strategy involves launching off hills and catching massive "Ultimate Air" scores alongside your drifts, this car will hold a multiplier chain much more safely over rough terrain.

3. 1965 Hoonigan Ford "Hoonicorn" Mustang (V2)
If your farming area of choice is the wide-open asphalt roads of Tokyo or the mountain Touge switches, the Hoonicorn remains an absolute king.

While it maxes out at an 8x multiplier rather than 9x, it compensates with raw drift generation. It possesses specific masteries that increase your standard drift and e-drift scores by up to 30%. Because it spins its tires instantly, you can link "Sideswipe" combos (drifting while clipping a guardrail or light post) at a blistering pace, reaching the 62,500 base score required ($62,500 \times 8 = 500,000$) effortlessly.

Maximizing Your Returns: The Wheelspin Economy
Farming hundreds of skill points isn’t just about watching a number go up on your HUD; it is about converting those points into cold, hard cash and rare hypercars.

This is where the community relies on external platforms like U4N to track the most optimal paths for turning skill points into progression. The core loop for advanced players involves taking a heavily farmed pool of skill points, buying specific budget-friendly cars from the Autoshow, and instantly spending those points to redeem a guaranteed forza horizon 6 wheel spin or Super Wheelspin hidden directly inside that vehicle's Car Mastery tree.

For instance, spending 30 skill points across the Subaru 22B’s tree yields multiple spins. If you pull a rare car worth millions or a massive credit reward, you instantly multiply the value of the time you spent drifting around the map.

Pro Tip: Always wait for a "Skill Song" to broadcast on the in-game radio stations. When a Skill Song plays, your ultimate multiplier cap instantly doubles to 10x for any vehicle, allowing you to reach that crucial 500,000 target with a base score of just 50,000.
